Wow, the Apple iPhone is great isn’t it!Ever since the first day that the iPhone was announced and appeared on that huge stage & screen I knew that I’d want one.
One problem – How much is the iPhone going to be by the time it is launched in Ireland?
Apple’s $499/$599 iPhone still on track for late June in the US, however there has been no release date for the gadget here in Ireland/Europe (that I am aware of, please correct me if I am wrong).
So heres the way I see it, I predict the Apple iPhone only being available on the Vodafone Ireland network here in Ireland obviously. I can see the iPhone being way overpriced, all you have to do is look at the price difference in iPods, iMacs and Mac minis between the US and the Ireland Apple store. I think its very unfair!
Another thing that is p***ing me off is the lack of 3G in the Apple iPhone, although I do hope that this will be improved in future updates?
After the success of the iPod Apple could be pushing the boundaries just a little too much. All the functionality and no problems? Im sure that there will be many issues with the iPhone at launch.
I’m also interested in battery power/consumption… how is this going to effect users that regularly use the iPod function to watch a movie? Surely that large, bright screen can be very hard on power… leaving you stranded somewhere with no battery power to make a call?

I wouldn’t touch an iPod due to the restrictions on the content, and the price for a designer mp3 player….but I have to say, design wise the iPhone looks fantastic. I’d agree that Apple will no doubt play on the designer branding and hike the price.
Could you import from a UK based internet shop like http://www.dabs.co.uk and have it posted? They do iPods, so I’m guessing the iPhone will be available there too….eventually.
The other solution may be to wait a little while and watch others like Nokia copy the touchpad style multi function interface idea. No doubt cheaper than Apple.
I did see problems reported about iPods battery life, they may have addressed that now.

I don’t think The iphone will be too highly priced as there are alot of Mp3 phone types on the market already ie. Sonyericsson and Nokia. It will need to be priced in or around the region of it’s competitors or sales will be slow. After all Apple aren’t a phone maker, I think the average irish consumer will think about that.

re; Rab seniors comment: “I think the average Irish consumer will think about that”
The average Irish consumer is stupid, dipping into their easy credit to buy everything from lattes to ipods every saturday up grafton street… Regarding the iPhone, do you really think that Irish retailers are going to introduce the iPhone at the same price as Sony Ericsson etc? No chance, they’ll introduce it at the highest price and if they aren’t shifting them quick enough they might reduce them after Q1 2008 and “bundle” it with a shiny new monthly rate. Thats how these industries work. Especially the Irish ones who are MASTERS at overcharging. (I’m Irish by the way) It will probably be 580 quid for the low end iPhone and a new contract of one year (as opposed to two in the States). It will not be 3G and a 3G iPhone will not be available until late 2008 – possibly 2009. Apple would never release a 3G one in Europe before the States. They realise the importance of not pissing off all those who paid 600 dollars just a couple of weeks ago. They will just take out their angst by continuing to ship poorly made computers however…

its definetly not a good Idea to buy it from england or amreica. We have to be patient. i both the Gizmondo from england before it came out here (well it never came out here), Half of the cool things about the gizmondo didnt work because of network problems and GPS satelite restrictions. I’m gonna wait untail it comes out here. Its not a good Idea to buy it from other countries

Hi Guys, the iPhone will not be unlocked, (as everyone worldwide could use it then) but, my site TechnoEssence.com has got the inside scoop and has all the latest for an imminent announcement.

The irish based website http://www.unlockthatiphone.com is now ready to ship unlocked iPhones anywhere in Ireland for just euro449. They are using the unlocking software from iphonesimfree.com to do the unlocks. They are also offering the unlock solution on its own for just euro39.

Hi, I know about that company, but I am saying that Apple themselves will be announcing the official Irish iPhone, (with Visual Voicemail and added features) soon.
Sure the unlocking has been there since the 24th of August.

I’m planning to be in Ireland from October-2 to October 10 and would like very much to purchase the Iphone 8GB. I’d like to know if there is any chance of buying one Iphone in Ireland during this visit or should I plan to get it somewhere else.
Regards
Gabi

I have been reading alot about the Iphone. Supposedly it will only be released on 1 network (e.g AT&T have the on service for the Iphone) so if you wanna get one you will have to figure a way to unlock it. Also i have heard rumours that the iPhone will be released in UK around December on the 02 network.

Im just wondering about 3G.
it would be awesome if you could just download an update or w.e, but thats like impossible without hardware, so I reckon there should be an add-on or something because seriously, later on apple have the only other liekyl choice of making new iPhones with more features…and after us spending this kind of money on the 1st model….wtf do they think we will do when a better one comes out but you need to spend a large sum of money again.
Im 14 and had this 5 or 600 euro ready for the iPhone in the past 2 or 3 months…and if what ‘Kevin J’ said was true about 750 euro..then I will lose it..and still may buy it……….but IF a new one comes out in ‘08 new features and really good things….im sure a lot of people will be with me and fucking go insane.

Personally, I am engaged in the old Irish art of the Boycott. I am Boycotting the Apple iPhone on the basis that I am denied a choice of network provider.
