made the mistake of going for the larger mem. and a new system, it lasted less than two days and then it started to sound like a car with bad breaks, then refused to read any of my disks!!!! still waiting for it to be return from Microsoft…Should have bought a PS3 but waiting for Mass Effect

  2. John Says:

I just bought mine from Costco. I turned it on and a ring of red light appeared, first time out of the box. I take very good care of my stuff and keep it dust free, and this is now my 3rd xbox 360 i have had to return. This sucks.

  3. rickjames Says:

it says unplayable disc.. its a problem with the disc.. isnt it? ive had my 360.. the white one since the 1st week of release, and i havent had one single problem. i guess im one of the lucky ones

  4. Jarod Jefferson Says:

I just recently received an Xbox 360 Elite for my birthday and within 4 days the system is already having problems. I was in the middle of a game of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion when the screen froze. After I performed a system shutdown I tried turning it back on and now I only get a red light in the lower right quandrant and the system won’t even boot up. I definitely should have asked for a PS3 but I was waiting for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. This @#$% sucks.

  5. wesley gilbert Says:

I have now since december ‘06 and its giving this bull shit. MS suck ass.

  6. mike Says:

when you get the light in the lower right quadrant it means one of two things your hardrive or cables aren’t connected correctly or theres a hardware failure somewhere

  7. BMan_88 Says:

Hi i’m looking to buy an Xbox 360 elite. But I don’t want it to F*ck up as soon as a get it. Do you think I should wait a bit longer until MS fixes the Red Light issue. Cheers.

  8. Jackie Says:

I just bought a 360 elite last week and it has been moving along ok. i had 2 freeze ups while playing def jam icons but that was only because my brother has the white 360 and his disc was scratched to hell. anytime i played any other game it hasn’t done a thing wrong. the only problem i have with it is i can’t get my computer to see the 360 and the 360 can’t see my computer. mayeb i networked them wrong because i can no longer see my mom’s computer on the network with mine. but i found out online that since the power brick dissipates heat in all directions, the power brick should be suspended in mid air via a string so it can dissipate the heat correctly. i just saw the problem with that because when i touched the power brick on the top and sides its never hot and leave it on for hours, but when i picked it up and felt the bottom, it was burning hot. suspending it will be a lot better. i read that the power brick causes the ring of death issue sometimes because it overheats. it also helps when u have central air and u have a fan on the vent directed towards the 360 on high. just hope no one decides to turn the heat on to be funny and kill ur system.

  9. Jon Says:

I just recently bought a 360 elite from Amazon.com. I haven’t had any real problems with it. On campaign it seems to work fine, but sometimes when I am playing online in Rainbow Six Vegas it freezes up. This probably due to extensive play but I’m not sure cause it played campaign mode fine. I figure there is just too much to handle during a big battle with lots of explosions although it freezes at the quieter times during gameplay.

  10. tigerplug Says:

Hi Jon, I have found that my Xbox 360 scratches my disks…. maybe it could be something similar?

  11. esma Says:

    360 sucks!!!

  12. Czar Says:

I would suggest you guess invest in a PS3 for $20 dollars more than the Elite. I’ve had my PS3 since March and I’m loving it! I loved the first Xbox didn’t have any problems whatsoever but for some damn reason Microsoft can’t seem to get it right?? I friends that bought 360’s and they’ve all had to return their systems… I’m not a fanboy of Sony but come on Microsoft get it together!!!

  13. MM Says:

I just got an elite last night. I plugged it in, then heard a loud buzz and a pop sound come from behind my xbox. i went to check what the noise was and smelled a burnt smell. I checked the power supply and found that the little orange light on the brick wouldn’t come on. (No Power) This is my third 360 that has died in a year and a half. I’m really thinking about getting a PS3 now.

  15. brettnet Says:

at least your elites turn on i just got mine, opened it up and it wont turn on. I waited to week for this piece of crap.

  16. Tanner Says:

I just got an xbox 360 elite 5 days ago. I have 2 brand new games and my xbox has scratched the heck out of both of them.

  17. Kevin Says:

i just got my 360 elite today and the piece of crap worked fine i was just playing halo 2 campaign and decided to turn it off. turned it back on and within one minute it froze. it’s ridiculous, got it from best buy tommorow looks like i’ll be picking up another one..

  18. Pip Says:

It sound stupid but the main problem with consoles are that they don’t like standing up vertically. the disk drives hate it, they slip out of there holding ring. like any other cd device keep it laying down. They should’nt publish machines standing up as this can damage the CD’s, so you have to fork out buying a another game!!!

As for overheating, with any overheating its due to a crappy cheap fan that they have installed for the power supply and not enuf ventelation to the console. What you should do is email and write to MS to see if they can replace the fan with a better quailty one that would work better, plus install a fan for the cooling of the motherboard and graphics!!!

  19. Mark Says:

My 360 has been working fine for over a year, but all these stories of the ring of death has got me on edge every time i play it!!! I have decided to part exchange for a ps3. Sorry microsoft, you had your chance and blew it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Kristina Says:

Man these xbox 360s are taking us back to the days of blowing out nintendo games. Screens freezing, flashing lights, clacks, overheating…wtf? Microsoft is some shit. Fucking capitalist losers. Putting out trash for money…So much for planned obsolescence. They are theives.

  21. Mark Says:

Just part exchanged my 360 for Ps3 at gamestation. They done a 2 hour test on it, as they claimed, that they are having about 40% of customers complaining about faults! and trying to return them. I was a nervous reck during the test, lost about 4 pints of sweat!! Some how it past?

Got Ps3, to be honest games are not as good as 360 and i confused whether it should be in the kitchen, as it looks more like a Geogre Foreman grilling device! I do hope all you 360 owner can find a solution as it is wicked for games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. ryan Says:

i had two regular xbox 360’s and one elite that all failed. i just recently got a new elite and it works fine i think its becuz i haven’t played online with it. i think online fucked up my first 3

  23. Hayden Says:

Me and my friend got an Elite mid May from Best Buy. So far I’ve had absolutely no problems, no freezing and it def hasn’t scratched any of my games. Same goes for my friend. Out of all my friends that have a 360 I have only one friend who got the rings of death. So how common could it possibly be. As for trading in for a PS3 wats the point? Trade in for a system that has absolutely no games I wanna play? Rather trade in for the cash if anything. Anyway 65nm 360s should be on the way next shipment. Should fix alot of problems.

  24. simon Says:

A german company claim that they have solved the ring of death, for good!
You can watch on youtubes X-fix-clap. Rumour has it Microsoft are looking into it?

  25. serialsniper973 Says:

My 360 made that same noise. Right now it has just been sent in for repair which sucks because I won’t be able to play Halo 3 for a month!!! If your 360 makes that noise I advise you get it fixed before it starts scrathing discs. Extend your warranties. Don’t worry maybe next year they’ll figure this out.

  26. kps Says:

I got an Xbox elite a week ago, and after one and half days of playing mostly bioshock, but dead rising and tony hawk also a little bit, the system froze during bioshock. I restarted the system and it would no longer read the game disk, any of them.

I was able to return the system and transfer the hard drive, but now when I power it on, sometimes it doesn’t see the hard drive right and I have to turn it off and back on again. Mainly saw this (lower right red light) when I powered on the system by hitting the eject button. If I turn it off and hit the normal power button it’s fine.

I did buy the external fans to be safe, I don’t care if it is louder, as long as it’s cooler and doesn’t die again.

  27. migekas Says:

i bought my 360 elite 3 days ago and it start making a very strange noise its my 2 xbox with problems, and i have also a ps, never give me problems, no overheat, no noises its a much much better console,

  28. HarrisBlade Says:

Playing for a week on my new XBOX 360 elite… no problems so far. Seems to be a hit or miss issue? Or a lot of “nah” sayers out there?

    Peace

  29. matthew bullard Says:

what is wrong wiht you people, look this should solve all problems with your elites, get a small fan point it at your system this should keep it cool, as for the disk scratching thing, it only does that when you try to switch your system from vertical to horizontal while disk is running, so that is your own faults, i have went through two other 360’s premiums and they both overheated and died, the elite runs so much quieter and smoother despite those fake videos of them messing up, like the guy said earlier wheres the proof, elite is def a more improved version, quit your bitching what do you expect, and dont say ps3’s and wiis dont fail i work at a video game tore and i see an equal amount of wiis and ps3s coming in.

  30. matthew bullard Says:

oh and if you play your 360 for six hours straight and wonder why its running hot and quits on you think about it again and read this comment let your f-ing 360 rest between sessions,, it will extend your systems lifespan

  31. babs Says:

My 360 premium got the 3 rings, so while I’m waiting for repairs, I thought I’d try the elite and give the old one to my nephew after it’s fixed. The elite lost sound within 3 minutes while setting it up. Then when I was on the phone with consult we tried using the cable from the old x-box and the sound came on. I played a couple hours last night. This AM turned it on and no picture, nothing. Except that I had to turn the TV off and back on again to get my input screen back up to go back to cable, so it was doing something (bad). It’s boxed back up to go back to the store now.

  32. ghostlymatty Says:

dude come on that sounds like theres a problem with your television, did you try the hdmi port? most of the elites are geared for that so if you use the basic red yellow green connection then you might have problems on older televisions, mine is a sony 67 inch hd so the might also be the reason ive had no problems with my elite , ive been playing halo3 steady for the past week no problems yet, maybe i just got lucky enough to get a working one, from my experience all the 360’s i purchased on the west coast have failed repeatedly, so try to purchase one online from a retail store on east coast, gamestop.com is where i bought mine

  33. Scott Says:

if you play your console upright it will cratch your discs….even the PS2 did that…i used to work for Game (Electronics Boutique) we recomended to everybody to play it flat…however my gripe is that the wireless headset is not elite compatible!!

  34. ghostlymatty Says:

woah who told you that, they only time your disks get scratched is when you move it from standing up right to laying down while the disk is running, it wont magically scratch your disks just because of the way its laying and i worked for gamestop so get your facts straight man, and yes the elite is wireless headset capable cause i use it on mine, lol,,silly ass people. i have had my 360 standing up since i got it and never had any disks scratch or any problems with my elite whatso ever, dont believe rumors from dumb people,,,

  35. Greg625 Says:

I got my 360 Elite back in Sept ‘08. I have taking it back and got a new one already and plan on taking back my second one tomorrow. The first one would play a dvd, but a bunch of little red boxes would appear on the screen and you could see the movie and the color would mess up when I would play a game. The one I got now was working fine for about 2 days. It will not play a dvd or a game now. It will not read my discs. No it is not because my discs are scratched either. I also highly doubt that all my dvd (over 500) and game discs are messed up. I think i’ll just stick with Sony. Never had a problem with them. I recommend that you don’t buy a 360 Elite. PS3 is a hell of a lot better.

  36. russell Says:

if red light come on by the power button thing its just telling that somehting is disconted or your 360 is going to over heat.
but my elite when i turn it on and play a game on it i hear a buzzing sound but no poping sound. but if im at the xbox360 dashboard or watching a movie on it i hear nothing.

  37. Spam Says:

Ya im boring my dads Elite while mines at the shop, it freezes when ever i play too human, but i know its not the disk or the hard drive because i used both on my friends normal xbox. the Elite is screwed up. i dont even see why they made it. They could have just made the bigger mem separate.
I’ve been using my normal 360 since it came out and its been fine, its lasted a good yr (or yr and half i dont keep track) but ya i’ve never had this kind of problem that im having with the elite.
it freezes up with samurai warriors, rainbow six vegas 2, and Halo3
The Elite is a waste of money.

  38. Ilyn Says:

i just got an 360 elite, and the damn thing wont even power up! all i have is the orange stand by light on the adapter. its an absolute waste on money. maybe we should, all sign a petition for microsoft to recall all this junk they are selling to us!

  39. marco Says:

ok so I have had an xbox 360 from the beginning no problems whatsoever but my friends all got the 3 rings problem ALL OF THEM (I always had a intec inter cooler) i decided to buy an elite and sell my old one because i was sure it wouldn’t break. well it has been running perfectly ever since the big difference is the fact that my elite keeps cool for hours i have played for 6 hours once and it was as cool as when i started it(switched intercoolers too to match the color got the nyko ex the first generation was bad but the ex is great probably the best), oh yeah i always keep it elevated, in an open space, and flat. I also have a ps3 and a wii never had any problems with them probably because i do the same thing as witch the 360.

  40. k15c0 v2 Says:

“the Elite is screwed up. i dont even see why they made it. They could have just made the bigger mem separate.”

I have had no problems with my Elite except it wont play my Halo 2 disk for some reason but thats about it. And my Halo 2 disk is not scratched at all. Maybe it’s just faulted in some way :P.

You know why they made it? Cause they knew they would make more money and they did. You suckered into buying it so don’t complain.

I love the Elite. It’s a beautiful system. And runs smoothly. My boyfriend has just the 360 and that freezes up more than I’ve seen an elite freeze up. The original 360 gets Red Ring of Death way more.

And if you buy it and doesn’t work out of the box - It’s not the system. It’s who built and handled it. And be thankful it doesn’t work out of the box cause then you can just go get a new one.

  41. k15c0 v2 Says:

Also I’ve seen almost every game system on the market having someone get it with a fault, it doesn’t work, etc etc. It doesn’t just happen to the Xbox but I can agree it probably happens more with it. I also have a ps3 and that’s really nice as well. They have no games for it though. It kind of sucks. I thought of getting rid of it but I thought they have some games I like. And it’s a blu-ray player. Those things cost like 1,000 dollars. So it’s nice to have one at only 400 bucks. But I’ve seen many people have same faults with the ps3 so don’t just blame Xbox! Also my boyfriends Wii’s sensor bar has broken 3 of my boyfriends TV’s - If you use it with older TV’s it messes up the picture and it’ll turn on for like 3 seconds and shut off every time. The TV’s won’t work anymore.

  42. JPr Says:

Well… My Xbox is doing the dance of fail right now.. I don’t know if I should buy another Failbox 360 or go PS3. From what I’ve heard, the PS3 is about as fun as playing with stale bread. All the same games or similar styled games and still more bore to come. I took the Xbox to a repair shop as I am currently staying in a different country and don’t want to go through the hassle of shipping…. Microsucky just screwed me out of 500 dollars. Hopefully the fix will juice out at least another month out of this expensive fail-machine.
